Phrasal Verbs (En Çok Kullanılanlar Örnekler ve Türkçe Anlamları)

     İngilizce de ön önemli fiillerden olan phrasal verb'ler; iki farklı fiilin birleşerek farklı anlamda yeni bir fiil yada benzer anlamlı yeni bir filin oluşumudur.

bring up çocuk yetiştirmek	It isn't easy to bring up children nowadays. Günümüzde çocuk yetiştirmek kolay değil.
call off iptal etmek	They called off this afternoon's meeting. Öğleden sonraki toplantıyı iptal ettiler.
do over yampak, bitirmek	Do this homework over. Bu ödev bitti.
fill out form doldurmak	Fill out this application form and mail it in. Bu başvuru formunu doldurun ve postayla gönderin.
fill up kapasiteyi doldurmak	She filled up the grocery cart with free food. Bakkalını ücretsiz yiyeceklerle doldurdu.
find out keşfetmek (öğrenmek)	My sister found out that her husband had been planning a surprise party for her. Kardeşim, kocasının onun için sürpriz bir parti hazırladığını öğrendi.
give away başkasına ücretsiz vermek	The filling station was giving away free gas. Benzinistasyonu ücretsiz gaz veriyordu.

make up hikaye yada yalan uydurmak	She knew she was in trouble, so she made up a story about going to the movies with her friends. Başının belada olduğunu biliyordu, bu yüzden arkadaşlarıyla birlikte filmlerle ilgili bir hikaye hazırladı.

put off ertelemek	We asked the boss to put off the meeting until tomorrow. (Please put it off for another day.) Patrona toplantıyı yarına kadar ertelemesini istedik. (Lütfen başka bir güne erteleyin.)
put on giyinmek	I put on a sweater and a jacket. (I put them on quickly.) Bir kazak ve bir ceket giyindim. (Onları çabucak giyindim.)

break in on konuşmayı kesmek	I was talking to Mom on the phone when the operator broke in on our call. Operatör konuşmayı kestiğinde telefonda annemle konuşuyordum.

look forward to dört gözle veya sabırsızca beklemek	I always look forward to the beginning of a new semester. Her zaman yeni bir dönemin başlamasını döet gözle bekliyorum.
look in on birisini ziyaret etmek	We were going to look in on my brother-in-law, but he wasn't home. Kayın biraderimizi ziyaret edeceğiz, ama evde değildi.
look out for dikkat etmek, tahmin etmek	Good instructors will look out for early signs of failure in their students. İyi eğitmenler, öğrencilerinde erken başarısızlık işaretlerine dikkat ederler.
